Counselling

Major transitions in life, while very common, add stress to our lives which can be quite painful and confusing. Transitions in marriage, parenthood, children moving out on their own, work related issues, retirement, sometimes even relocation, divorce, or loss of a family member can weigh quite heavy on us sometimes causing misunderstandings and anger with those we are the closest to.

Joan Sinclair works with individuals, couples and families providing counselling in dealing with life's transitions, both major and minor and their impacts on both the individual and the family. She is a family mediator, counsellor, and parent with over 25 years of experience working with clients in a variety of modalities. Her mediation practice focuses on separation, divorce, parent/teen relationships, adult/child and aging parents, and family business. Her counseling and therapeutic approaches include Imago, Encounter-centred, Cognitive behavioral, Mindfulness, EMDR, Focusing, Psychosocial, Solution focused,  and Psycho-educational therapy.

"I believe there is no such thing as a hopeless situation. During the 25 plus years I have worked as a counsellor and mediator I have had people come to me feeling overwhelmed and discouraged, often unable to see their way out of a situation. It is my job to ensure that each person's needs are identified and addressed, whether their problems are of a financial, parenting, or relationship nature, or a combination. My focus is on helping people communicate effectively and openly. I am careful to make sure that clients are actively involved, that they represent themselves well and make intelligent decisions that will last." Joan Sinclair
